Coufal - foul throw or not?
Coufal's throw-in leading to our equaliser against Spurs was called a foul throw by the Sky match commentator, and by about 10,000 Spurs fans, but not by the referee. The correct technique according to Rule 15 includes the requirement to "throw the ball with both hands from behind and over the head". Maybe Coufal did not start his throw completely behind his head (i.e.not at neck level), but the objection seems to have been that he released it in front of his head. The Rule, which is rather vague, does not specify where the release point must be. It was definitely a throw as opposed to placing or dropping the ball downwards, so I think that the ref got it right. Any thoughts from trained referees amongst you?

I haven't watched it back but my initial reaction was foul throw. We got away with something...for once.

Almost all players deliver with one foot off the floor…never penalized…

Niblets - I just watched it back, Coufal’s leg is clearly off the floor when he throws, still …. About time we had some luck

Niblets

I've just gone frame by frame forward and back on whether his foot was off the floor. Unless there is another angle that I've not seen it is not clear that his foot was off the floor. If it was, it was very very marginal.

His foot was literally off the floor at the time he releases the ball.

Let's not be those cunts who refuse to admit when we get lucky, had that been the other way around there would have been outrage on here.

Never a penalty, never a foul throw, spurs were lucky to get a point

No surprise that crossed spurs thinks it was a penalty.

It may have looked a foul throw to you but it wasn't according to the rules. That's why the ref never blew. Because he knows the rules.

The penalty also wasn't a penalty based on the rule around distance from moment ball leaves player to hand. And as ref saw that it hit Cresswell's head first, thus reducing the distance it travelled from player to arm, he correclty ruled that the distance was too small to award a penalty.

So we wasn't fortunate at all.

should be able to put the ball on the line and kick it in as well like futsal would speed the game up a bit

Definite foul throw, which makes it even better

I'd still fine him a months wages for it though, the cunt

if that whining twat 'Højbjerg' hadn't been crying to the ref, perhaps he might have spotted it - fact is, that constant bleating (with Kane) actually cost them the equalizer on both fronts ;-)

As a law, this should be revised in my opinion.
What i think is that the ball must come as a minimum from above the head whereas it is from behind the head - however. The release point is immaterial.
Also you can have a foot raised rather than both planted.

As a spectator sport you want the ball in play.

Looked a foul throw to me. We also got lucky with the penalty decision.

Very fortunate indeed.

Robson

If refs gave a foul throw every time a player nicked a few yards there would be 50 per match. It's like letting little fouls go to let the game flow - same principle

Re: Coufal - foul throw or not?
"from the point where it left the field of play"

Oops I missed that part!

Ok in that case why do refs never pull up players for drifting a few yards up the pitch?

Re: Coufal - foul throw or not?
I posted and then read what others had said. That made me look up the law to see whether I was wrong or not. Turns out I was. By the laws of the game, there was nothing wrong with the throw.

I blame the refs and teachers who ran games in Newham in the 70s and 80s. They’d definitely have blown up for that.

https://www.thefa.com/football-rules-governance/lawsandrules/laws/football-11-11/law-15---the-throw-in

1. Procedure
At the moment of delivering the ball, the thrower must:
stand facing the field of play
have part of each foot on the touchline or on the ground outside the touchline
throw the ball with both hands from behind and over the head from the point where it left the field of play

Re: Coufal - foul throw or not?
It was a foul throw, one that was always given as a kid and is never given now.

I don’t care too, I hope that makes them cry even more about it.
